2 Down 22 To Go

So I haven’t been working on my master knitting classes. Actually, I really slowed down on the knitting in the spring and summer.  Not really sure why, but am back at it full steam.  I have quite a list of Christmas projects (that I’ll share another day) to get to – so I’ve got to get moving!!

The first Christmas project I picked up this year is from Knit Picks.  It’s a Christmas garland called “Smitten” – 24 color mini mittens.  Could be a nice advent calendar.  Here is the link for this pattern:

It is just darling.  I’m using deeper jewel tones for my Smitten.  I’ve finished two so far.  They are fairly quick to knit up.  I’ve done 1 and started another in an evening.  I could PROBABLY finish two if I wanted to!  I’ve got a purple one on the needles now.  Here is a pick of the two I’ve done.  Fresh off the needles – no blocking or anything yet.

First two smitten mittens

I think they’re so cute!!  Actually, they could work at nice tree ornaments too.  But, I do have a spot in mind for them in my front hall.

I’ve been in knitting mode the past few weeks.  Have been on Ravelry a lot.  Found some pretty good knitting blogs (always inspiring to see what others are doing) and have signed up for two local classes.  This weekend I’m taking a finishing class the Hillsborough Yarn Shop in Hillsborough, NC.  Then in two weeks am taking a class on gauge.  Am so excited about both.  Need to finish up the swatches I’m taking with me this weekend tonight!

I had not been into the Hillsborough Yarn Shop in ages, but stopped in to drop off my payment.  Truth be told, I usually don’t spend a lot on yarn.  I generally purchase through Lion Brand.  They have some nice and affordable yarns.  But it was heavenly to spend time in the Yarn Shop looking – and touching! – the beautiful yarns.  Inspired me to spend some $$ on Christmas gifts.  I’d like to work with some local yarns.  That would be fun!
