WIPS, FO and Pattern Love

It’s been a fairly rough couple of weeks since my last, very brief post. My mom passed away on the 11th. We knew it was coming, it was only a matter of when. That really doesn’t make it much easier, although we had made a lot of arrangements ahead of time so we knew exactly what we were going to do. It’s comforting to know she’s no longer suffering, but hard to get used to life without her.

I had recently “hibernated” my color affection shawl. Christmas and baby knitting had priority. But, I pulled it out again during the week we were dealing with funeral details etc. It’s such a great pattern for comfort knitting. The pattern is so easy to memorize – just increases at the beginning of each row. And then knit, knit, knit. It was very comforting and I made some good progress on it. Even when you get to the short rows, it’s not taxing. I’d like to think I’m motivated to keep on knitting it now – but baby knitting is getting in the way. Among other knits! Here’s an updated picture of my color affection:

I also finished up one baby dress for a former co-worker. I found this pattern in Cascade 220’s 60 Quick Baby Knits book. It’s called the Smocked Dress. This dress makes me really happy. It had a challenge aspect (the smocking) but overall was easy and actually pretty quick as the title of the book suggests. All that’s left now is to pack it up and mail it!

I have started the Cradle Cardigan by Knitbot for my step-sisters baby. Not too far along with that one yet.

Now for the promised Pattern Love. I was looking through Ravelry recently for a pretty scarf to knit for my boss. She will be retiring this year, and I thought this would be a really nice gift. I found the perfect yarn: it’s by Three Irish Girls and the colorway is “Riley” – her last name! Perfect! So I found the pattern “Saroyan” by Liz Abinante. It is gorgeous!! And so easy, but looks really complicated! It’s knit end to end – and all along one edge there is a beautiful leaf pattern. I have actually started this in two different yarns. One in “Riley”

I’ve done just one leaf repeat with this yarn. And one in Malabrigo Merino Worsted in the “Whale’s Road” colorway. I think this is going to be for my step mother.

I did three leaf repeats last night. Unfortunately, these are not top priority knits right now! I may allow myself a few more days with these, but then really have to get crackin’ on the Cradle Cardigan!

And since I’ve been trying to brighten your day with cat cuteness each week — here’s a recent shot of my Scotch. He’s been such a good boy lately. One day while I was taking a nap he actually came and slept on top of my legs. He never does that. My husband thought he must have known I was feeling sad. He’s a sweetie.

  1. Sorry about your mom. Lost a friend to cancer a month ago. 52 yrs old and we knew she wouldn’t get better, but there’s still a hole in your heart.
The scarf is really nice. I’ve done a shawl and some cowls. Might have to give something like this a try. I like to knit hats, but don’t look real good in them… ;o) very nice yarn color, too.
