Hattie’s Update

So another couple of months have passed without a blog entry.  I have been knitting, and have actually finished a couple of things.

The biggest news of the past couple of months is that Stephanie Pearl-McPhee, the Yarn Harlot herself, visited our local yarn shop (Yarns Etc) this month.  What a great weekend!  It started out with a talk on Friday night – laughed so much my sides hurt!  It was really great.  And wonderful validation for all of us knitters!!  Then, I was lucky enough to take a sock knitting class with her the following day.  Three more hours of great fun – laughter and lots of great sock knitting.  I think I’m going to be a devotee of her sock “recipe” from now on.  It just makes sense!  I got a picture with her as well, after she signed my copy of “Knitting Rules”!  A real highlight – bigger than the TKGA conference (and that was great too!). So here we are! BFFs for sure!!

I have finished Nick’s flag blanket – all but the stars.  I’m going to do 15 stars.  I don’t really understand the crochet directions, so I need to figure out how to knit them.  He’s happy to have the blanket, but I have to admit – crochet is not my favorite.  The edges are SOOO uneven. In the picture below I tried to photographic it strategically to hide the unevenness! As you can see, the cat really loves and has already put his stamp of approval on the blanket!

I had wanted to make him  a giant granny square blanket.  I know I could handle that!!  (And I have one in my queue!).

I just finished a pair of cozy socks for him.  This pattern is a combination of a couple of patterns.  I used Lorna’s Laces Shepherd’s Worsted in the “Legen . . . wait for it . . dary” colorway.  Nick loves “How I Met Your Mother” so I knew this would be perfect for him!  I’m going to make a second pair for my husband. He tried on Nick’s and can’t wait for his own pair of cozy socks!!

I’ve made some progress on the scarf for my Dad – the final piece Christmas knitting.  It’s a very easy pattern, but not one easily memorized and you really to (or at least I really need to) pay attention.  So it did not make good “social knitting” during the holidays!  Especially after a drink or two!  I hope to have it done within the next week to send it up to him.

I’ve been following the Knitmore Girls podcast (among a few others) and joined in the Behm-Along.  I made a Brickless by Martina Behm using Lorna’s Laces (I think DK weight) in “Christmas at Downton” that I’ve had in my stash for awhile.  I loved every minute of knitting it.  Great pattern.  I’m giving it to my step Mom and have cast on one for myself!  I’ve been wearing my Hitchhiker that I made for Camp Loopy quite a bit!

In other knit news, I made myself a pair of Christmas socks using Knit Picks Felici in “Jingle”. Self striping sock yarn rocks!! I ordered several other colors since I’m on a real sock kick now!! I also made up a quick hat for my brother-in-law in Quince & Co Lark. I’ve got a lot left!! More hats perhaps?!

Finally, for now, I was so excited to score a couple of balls of Lollipop yarn the last time they updated the shop on Etsy. I’m totally hooked on Etsy now!! Can’t wait to cast on some socks with these:

Finally, for Yarn Along – I am about to start reading “For Whom the Bell Tolls” with my sisters and Dad. We all read East of Eden – now onto the next classic!!

So much more to write about, but for now, I’ll say so long and Happy Knitting!!
